The Traditional Food Of Purwakarta

There are some traditional food of Purwakarta that could be enjoyed by us. Here are some of them :

1. Fermented Cassava

Tapai cassava is made from fermented cassava. This food is popular in Java and is known all over the place, from West Java to East Java. In West Java, it is known as peuyeum in Sundanese.
We need a cassava to make a fermented cassava as a substrate and a yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) that has been smeared on the peeled cassava’s skin. There are two techniques to produce usual tapai, wet and soft, and dry tapai. Dry Tapai Priangan is more popular in the northern regions like Purwakarta and Subang, and it is known as the typical souvenir of this area (known as hanging peuyeum, because trading by hanging). This snack contains pro-vitamin A (beta carotene) that can maintain the health of skin and carotenoids non pro-vitamin A as antioxidants and can also prevent premature aging of our skin

2. Satay Maranggi

Satay Maranggi is a typical satay from Purwakarta. But there is also an opinion that comes from Cianjur Usually made from goat meat or beef.
Satay Maranggi vendors can be found in almost every corner of Purwakarta, mostly on the side of the roads. What makes difference between satay and satay maranggi is that satay maranggi is made from a marinade soy sauce with a blend of sweet taste, sour, and spicy that touches the tongue at the time we enjoy this unique spicy satay.
Alloy taste tempting flavor that arises because satay maranggi’s spices are made from soy sauce, green chili sauce, plus a little vinegar that made from a sugar cane.
It is usually served with a seasoning sauce that mixed with slices of red onion and fresh tomato and rice.

3. Simping

Simping is a typical food of Purwakarta. It is shaped like flat sheets, round, thin, usually white, and of course it was tasty. This food is made from rice flour that was given some spices. Simping is similar to something that used to hold the cotton candy. There are so many flavours of simping we could taste like cheese flavour, jackfruit flavour, spicy flavour and kencur flavour.
Currently Simping not only in produced in Purwakarta, but also in other areas such as Karawang.


4. Fermented nutmeg

The benefit of Nutmegs actually can not only be obtained from its seeds. But we can also take benefits from the fruit. The fruit is usually processed to be a refreshing snack, and that is the fermented nutmeg or manisan pala in Indonesia. This food is assured to lower the blood pressure and eliminates the aches. People in Purwakarta, attempts to take the benefits of this fruit as much as they can. They don’t just take the benefit from the seeds, but they also proceed the fruit to be a fermented nutmeg. The water from this food, is believed to be a cure for some diseases. A kilogram of it sold for Rp 25.000

5. Colenak

Colenak is the abbreviation of “dicocol enak” it’s a Sundanese language . Colenak is a food that made from peuyeum (tapai cassava), which was burned and then served with a sauce made from grated coconut and brown sugar.
